Being a therapist to a child can be a heavy task. You need to act confident yet careful at the same time. In that way, you would be able to get the little one to open up and proceed to making an assessment on the right process to take. Every patient is different and with the wrong approach, they might shut down for the rest of their lives.

You must be concerned with how the immediately family is treating the patient. Your role as a child therapist Huntington Beach is not enough for the full recovery of this person. His or her loved ones will need to become equally understanding for the nightmares to be lessened and for them to be encouraged to start going out and socialize once again.

Play with them in different ways to build your trust. Remember that they should see you as an ally and not as the enemy. That is the only way that they can bring you back to what traumatized them. It also pays to be sincere in everything you do. Develop passion in helping these children recover from their troubled past.

A soothing voice is exactly what these traumatized children need. Laugh at them when they tend to become clumsy since they have the right to act upon their age. The least thing they require right now is an adult who will punish them for the slightest movements because that can really exhaust them of their energetic vibe.

In facing a child, you are required to try to feel what he or she has gone through in such a young age. In return, you can be more sympathetic with their meekness and form activities that can slowly get them out of their shell one day at a time. Create a common ground by showing to them that you have the latest games and toys.

Be sure that you have resolved your childhood issues a long time ago. You can never be a counselor when you look at these children and all you see is yourself. So, undergo personal counseling sessions ahead of time and be a stronger person. Listen to your patients with all the confidence you could muster.

Learn to communicate and learn when to let them be. Sometimes, they just need to be stuck in their world for them to forget what happened. You have to provide them with a safe environment again. Treat them as your own not just to prepare you for the next phase in your adult life but to bring out your compassionate side as well.

Motivation needs to stay there especially when you are still in your internship. Remember that these kids need you to hold the fort for them. Also, treat your new job as more than a stable money source. When you pay attention to the salary alone, you can be oblivious to the emotional burden of your patients.

Wear that smile always. Be more patient with everyday. Learn more about your chosen field.
