A Colonoscopy is a medical procedure that is carried out so as to identify any cancerous cells in the colon. Having the procedure carried out on a frequent basis reduces the chances of having the cancer spread and become deadly thus much harder to solve in future. During the colonoscopy Conway AR procedure, the doctor will thus check out for the cells and ensure that they are removed before they spread to become deadly.

Before the procedure is carried out, the patient first has to follow some instructions by the doctor. First, the patient is expected to only drink clean, clear foods and drinks a few days before the procedure is done example clear juices, tea, and broth. The patient may also be instructed to stop consuming some drugs and also to take some antibiotics according to an analysis by the doctor.

Also, the day before the examination, the patient is also instructed to carry out an instruction which allows the colon to be prepped as a preparation for the procedure. There are three main options used to carry out the prep. With the first method, electrolytes or a sports drink is used to prepare a laxative solution to be drunk by the patient.

The second option involves taking a laxative pill with the drinks awhile the last option involves using an enema to wash out the colon. The prep chosen should be taken properly as directed by the doctor. After the bowel prep works satisfactorily, the client undergoes the process the next day. The patient is first given an anesthesia with the procedure taking between 20 to 60 minutes.

Any items or cells that seem suspicious in the colon will be removed during the procedure by the doctor. To help them properly inspect the colon for cancer, the doctor may also take biopsies for future assessment. The patient is then allowed to rest for an hour after the process then they are taken home. They are not allowed to drive as they may still be drowsy from the anesthesia.

Colon cancer is not common for everyone; it is a disease that tends to come up in people either male or female above 50 years. People should thus have the procedure first after turning 50. The procedure is then carried out regularly afterwards with the common frequency as one after each ten or five years until they are 75. Others should begin screening at 40 if they are related to people who had polyps or colon cancer before they were 60.

The doctor, however, may require more frequent visits if they notice any problems during the procedure. The procedure is essential as it helps in prevention of cancer through removing all cancerous cells. Furthermore, it makes cancer detection early on before they worsen and seriously affect the health of a patient. This is also a common tactic used to help prevent cancer; that is through having the cancerous cell identified and removed before they spread.

The process may seem scary for many people. However, it is an important measure to help people who are at a higher risk of colon cancer to live on. This is because the process is mainly aimed at identifying issues before they worsen and become more difficult to treat and heal thus increasing the likelihood of death.
